Leonidas “Steve” Stivaktis, first picked up a pencil when he was three years old and his grandmother taught him how to doodle daisies, and he’s never put it down since then. He studied comic art and illustration in Onerakis School of Applied Arts in Athens, creative writing in the Kapodistrian University of Athens, and he hopes to study literature in the future, specifically fantasy and science fiction.
Steve has been working as an artist since 2008, and in that time he has illustrated several books for children and one for teachers, has made illustrations for the tabletop pen and paper roleplaying game The Small Folk by Phil Masters, and he used to make queer comics for Antivirus magazine. He’s happiest when he self-publishes his comics and takes them from convention to convention in Greece and Europe (such as AthensCon, Malta Comic Con, Thought Bubble Festival, Cyprus Comic Con, and many more), which he has been doing with great success since 2013. He’s mostly known for his Dungeons and Dragons illustrations, his comics Esmé (retold Greek folk tales but with extra queer characters and sneaky goats), The Monsters in the Closet (identities and queer experiences, in the closet and out), and Jellinkfish (your usual art problems comic but this time personified as an imaginary evil jellyfish), and currently he’s working on too many new comics as well as concept art for more tabletop roleplaying games. His current projects and works in progress include two science fantasy comics, an educational one on transgender issues, a children’s comic about princesses who save themselves (in space) and their knights in shining armour (also in space), and a sort-of prequel to Esmé, once again full of traditional Greek fairy tales and bad puns.
In the rare occasions when he’s not working, you can find him playing D&D with friends, trying to act in local drama groups, reading inside buses or trains, petting dogs, or thinking how bummed he is that he’s not currently working or petting dogs.
