A Comic Con in the year of a pandemic, is that even possible?
Apparently nothing is what it was a few months ago. Reason to mourn the past? Maybe, but not only. Instead, we have to adjust and react to a new reality.
Do we have to plan a Comic Con? One in advance. We really want to have our CCON | COMIC CON STUTTGART 2020 this year, but it would be presumptuous and stupid to plan a con now just like we have done in the past years.
With this article we want to give you a short update on what we are doing at the moment, what we are thinking about and how we are planning.
We are fortunate to have a partner in Messe Stuttgart who has always supported us in many things and is still doing so in these times. It was planned for 2020 anyway that CCON | COMIC CON STUTTGART will move to new halls because our Hall 1 is needed for the construction of another event. Therefore, CCON was planned to be held in two other halls in 2020. Messe Stuttgart is now giving us the opportunity to expand the event area to a total of up to four halls due to the current situation. We will therefore double the exhibition area used so far, but without simultaneously increasing the number of exhibitors. As a result, the con will be massively equalised in terms of space and every visitor will gain considerable freedom for themselves. So it won’t be as cozy as it was in the past, but it won’t be as crowded either.
We are also revising the planning of the halls, so that we are focusing on sufficiently wide aisles at all points.
Also new in 2020 will be that there will be no box office on site. Advance ticket sales will be exclusively on the Internet, because every participant must enter his or her address data there, so that traceability is guaranteed. The total number of tickets will be limited. A monitoring of the visitor flows in the halls will also give us the opportunity to control them and to be able to react in case of “too much traffic”.
Messe Stuttgart is also currently working on a new hygiene concept consisting of cleaning plans, disinfection dispensers, etc.
We do not know at the moment whether there will be an obligation to wear masks. If so, you can be sure that nowhere else in Germany will you experience more curious and crazy combinations of mouth/nose protection than here at CCON | COMIC CON STUTTGART 2020. You have to be able to see something positive in everything.
With these plans and suggestions we are currently approaching the authorities, because they have to approve an event the size of CCON every year. So we are not just implementing our own ideas here, but are actively developing them together with the responsible authorities.
At the moment it is too early to say whether there will be a con or not. Our aim is to hold one, but only if the safety of all participants is guaranteed and, in cooperation with the authorities, all those involved are convinced that it is possible. However, the current easing of public and cultural life makes us very confident.
We will keep you up to date.
