Build your own droid and take it home with you!
At this year’s CCON | COMIC CON STUTTGART as part of GALACTIC CANTINA in Hall 4 (Booth 4F90), the Droid Builders Club will be hosting a live building event for the first time. In this context we not only want to tell you everything about droid building – from materials to mechanics, electronics, control, software and sensor technology. But for the first time we want to build your own droid live for one hour, which you can take home afterwards!
And because static models are nice but not exciting, your own droid is controllable via your smartphone, drives, turns its dome and plays Star Wars sounds. You can even choose your own dome – you can choose from many of the droids from the Star Wars movies (R2, R4, R5, R6, R7, R9), but also V.I.N.cent and Max from Disney’s The Black Hole). You only have to paint your droid yourself afterwards!
The hardware for your droid comes from the 3D printer. The electronics is based on the open source platform “Arduino”, is easy to understand and you can expand your droid later with WLAN, higher radio range and even sensors. We’ll provide everything you need, all you need is an Android or iOS smartphone and a good dose of tinkering.
Unfortunately, the whole thing is not free, so we ask that you register for the event in the official forum of Droidbuilders Germany at https://t.ly/pUzg8. The participation fee is 50 Euro. This includes very tightly calculated the price for printed parts, electronics, motors and everything else necessary. Any differences from the cost price for parts will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. An admission ticket to CCON is required to attend.
We are offering two dates, December 9 and 10 from 3 to 4 p.m. each day. Each date will allow 10 participants or groups of two/three to build. The number of participants is therefore limited – hurry up with the registration!
