“I can barely see anything under the helmet, my armor is heavy and uncomfortable, and I can barely breathe. How am I supposed to even move like a Stormtrooper?”

Stormtroopers aren’t the only uncomfortable cosplays, and so this talk is interesting for anyone who wants to know how to move properly in armor and breathe life into cosplay. After all, for some, cosplay doesn’t just mean putting on a costume and taking pictures, but also displaying a behavior that is true to the original. Preparation, role-playing, ways of speaking, mindset, posture, stance, movement and how to act in groups will be explained and demonstrated in an entertaining way. Special attention is given to encounters with children, because they are the fans of tomorrow with whom you leave a lasting impression.

With parallels from Live Action Role Playing (LARP), Daniel Dreyer’s panel on “The Force Stage” in the GALACTIC CANTINA (Hall 4) at CCON | COMIC CON STUTTGART 2023 will provide helpful tips on how to work on your own acting skills with simple tools. All topics will be taught using the Stormtrooper as an example, but are applicable to any cosplay that has armor, a helmet or a mask.

About Daniel Dreyer

Daniel Dreyer has been a Stormtrooper in the 501st for 22 years. His most difficult stint in the armor was during the 2007 Rose Parade in Pasadena. However, he has also been playing an orc in LARP for over 20 years. There not only his armor is put to hard tests in battles, but also acting skills are expected under a latex mask. Daniel likes to incorporate his role-playing experiences into his cosplay, because standing around for photos has simply become too boring for him. Daniel has fought in medieval tournaments and done stunts for various fan films. He has 1st DAN in Ju-Jutsu (Black Belt), 1st CLASS in Modern Arnis (Brown Belt) and is a Kadua Guro in Kali Silat Evolution (Black Shirt). But what does martial arts have to do with cosplay?
